Our Story
In Honor of Esperanza “Hope” Lopez Lerma
The Hope Sports Foundation is founded in honor of Esperanza “Hope” Lopez Lerma, a woman whose life was defined by love, generosity, and unwavering support for her family. Although she never played baseball herself, Esperanza developed a deep love for the game through her grandsons. Nothing brought her greater joy than sitting in the stands, cheering them on, and watching them chase their dreams one game at a time.
As a proud grandmother, she experienced firsthand the sacrifices families make to keep their children on the field — the long hours of travel, the endless tournament weekends, and the significant financial commitment required for young athletes to compete. She also recognized that for many talented players, the greatest obstacle wasn't ability. It was affordability.
Inspired by her compassion and servant's heart, the Hope Sports Foundation exists to ensure that financial hardship never stands between a young athlete and the opportunity to play baseball. More than simply providing financial support, we invest in young people who demonstrate character, determination, respect, and a passion for the game — because baseball teaches lessons that extend far beyond the diamond: discipline, accountability, perseverance, teamwork, and leadership.
Every scholarship awarded carries forward Esperanza's legacy of kindness, generosity, and hope. Her spirit lives on every time a young athlete takes the field with confidence, knowing someone believed in them enough to help make their dream possible.
Because every child deserves the opportunity to play.
Because talent should never be limited by financial circumstances.
Because HOPE has the power to change lives.
